Meet the Team

Safety Rocks is built on the belief that real change happens through people and the people behind Safety Rocks are, in Carla’s words, her Avengers. A handpicked group of specialists, each one owning their corner of the business, bringing genuine expertise and no small amount of personality to everything they do.

There are no generic job descriptions or interchangeable roles here. Each Avenger has been chosen because of what they specifically bring - whether that’s deep industry knowledge, creative firepower, technical precision, the ability to open doors in the right places, or the kind of relationship-building that keeps clients coming back. Together, they make Safety Rocks what it is: dynamic, responsive, and genuinely different from anything else in the industry.

Meet the team behind the mission.

Carla Crocombe AKA Black Widow

Carla Crocombe

Carla leads Safety Rocks, setting the direction, instigating ideas, creating high-impact training, and making sure everything runs exactly as it should. Just like Agent Romanoff, she’s far from stereotypical: skilled in her craft, grounded in authority, and really, really no-nonsense.

More about Carla
What you might not know
Carla’s an ambivert - just as comfortable teaching a hundred people as she is alone in the car, driving fast, with the drum & bass turned up.
How she recharges
She calls it ‘change the channel rather than power down.’ Her switch-off involves the gym, cycling, good food and even better music - still energetic, but for her, not for work.
Food philosophy
Seaweed. Clean, natural, functional - full of iodine and B12. For Carla, food is superpower fuel, not just dinner.

One word Driven

Jonathan Coleby AKA Falcon

Jonathan Coleby

Jonny supports and manages all of Safety Rocks key clients, looks at new opportunities, and most importantly, (his words) tries to keep the Black Widow happy. Like Falcon, he's the one you want alongside you - dependable, sharp, and always knows where he's needed.

More about Jonny
What you might not know
He blagged his way onto a DJ stage as a photographer during the Future Music Festival in Australia and ended up dancing with the headlining DJ mid-set.
How he switches off
Headphones on, tracks mixed, world forgotten. Then Poppy the Cockapoo, some Only Fools and Horses, and ideally something motorsport-related on in the background.
At the bar
Italian food every time. Peroni after hours, Coke or a chocolate milkshake during working ones.

One word Stargazer

Bernie Chivers AKA Mantis

Bernie Chivers

Bernie is the one who makes sure everything runs smoothly - delegate details confirmed, site information sorted, tutors briefed and pointed in the right direction before they’ve even had to ask. Mantis works quietly, senses what’s needed, and keeps things on track without making a scene. Bernie does exactly the same.

More about Bernie
What you might not know
Her surname was once well-known in the jam-making world. We’re talking 1950s household name territory. There’s a legacy there.
Outside of work
Baking and eating out with friends and family. Essentially the two best things you can do with food, covered.
Favourite food
Cake. Chocolate. And sometimes both together!

One word Organised

Zoe Timbrell AKA Captain Marvel

Zoe Timbrell

Zoe coordinates the Safety Rocks creators on a mission to change the culture of motorsport through education and engagement. She’s spent her whole career in the paddock - she knows how this world works, who needs to be in the conversation, and how to tell the Safety Rocks story in a way that lands. Captain Marvel's authority is earned, not given. So is Zoe's.

More about Zoe
What you might not know
She used to spanner for friends who raced - prepping cars, doing pit stops, torch in mouth under the car. She’s seen the sport from every angle: paddock, pit wall, and underneath.
How she unwinds
Travelling, exploring and being outside - happiest off the beaten track with a bit of fresh air and something interesting around the next corner.
Perfect evening
A good glass of wine and a plate of Italian food. Pasta, pizza, whatever’s going - if it's Italian and there's wine alongside it, she’s happy.

One word Resourceful

Sam Walker AKA Captain America

Sam Walker

Sam is Safety Rocks’ Learning & Development Manager, working with Carla and the team in the development of new courses and materials that are, as always, truly tailored for clients - the kind of person you trust completely to do things properly, which is pretty much the definition of Captain America.

More about Sam
What you might not know
He’s been playing piano and keyboard since the age of six, and there are very few days when he doesn’t practise (with headphones on for the sake of his neighbours!)
At the weekend
Motorsport is a significant part of his life, most weekends are spent at events as a Clerk of the Course. For less octane-filled weekends, he’s cooking, playing the piano, or making what he describes as ‘excuses’ to visit pubs and restaurants.
Drink of choice
Crémant. He promises he’s not pretentious - it’s just genuinely a very good alternative to champagne. He has a point.

One word Grounded

Ali Rice AKA Spider-Woman

Ali Rice

Ali keeps Safety Rocks connected across social media - sharing updates, bringing the brand’s work to life, and making sure the right message reaches the right people at the right time. She weaves across every campaign and every brief without dropping a thread. Spider-Woman energy, if ever we saw it.

More about Ali
What you might not know
She can't just do nothing - there’s always something being pottered over, planned or prepared, much to her husband's ongoing bemusement, until she finally earns herself an hour or two of catch-up TV.
Outside work
Very much in her element when she’s outdoors - gardening, walking, noticing the flowers, stopping to listen to the birds and watching the wildlife.
At the table
Food from around the world, every time. It’s probably easier to say what she doesn’t like - and cottage pie is firmly towards the top of the list!

One word Doer

Oli Kane AKA Drax

Oli Kane

Oli looks after short-form video for Safety Rocks - editing, shooting, and getting out and about with a camera to capture what the brand does in the real world. Drax brings raw energy and no-nonsense delivery to everything he does, and Oli’s work has the same quality: direct, vivid, and impossible to ignore.

More about Oli
What you might not know
He posts a fair bit of his life online, so there’s not much people don’t already know, but each year he sets himself a running challenge, and over the past 2 years he’s ran more than 1000km.

At the table
Greek food. He and Hannah are going to get along very well.

One word Busy

Hannah Sossick AKA Dazzler

Hannah Sossick

Hannah handles all things design for Safety Rocks - the visual identity, the graphics, the look and feel that makes everything land properly. Dazzler was always the one who made the extraordinary look effortless, and Hannah’s work does exactly that.

More about Hannah
What you might not know
She’s a virtuoso recorder player. Yes, really - and before you picture a Year 3 classroom, look up what a virtuoso recorder player actually sounds like. It’s not what you’re imagining.
How she switches off
Swimming in rivers, listening to music, and getting her hands in the garden.
Favourite order
A Greek salad - but only in Greece. She has standards, and she’s sticking to them!

Two words Disarmingly calm

Jason Martin AKA Iron Man

Jason Martin

Jason builds the tech in the background from building booking forms and certificates to automations, so that Carla and the team can focus on what they do best. The Tony Stark of the operation.

More about Jason
What you might not know
He once attempted to cycle around the world. Solo, unsupported. He got ten months in before a bus driver ended the trip for him. He’s not bitter about it. Much.
Off duty
Beaches, hiking, and getting properly lost in the jungles of Indonesia. Jason switches off in a hammock somewhere humid, surrounded by things that bite.
Fuelled by
Asian food, every time. Indian specifically. A lamb rogan josh with a mango lassi. Fresh coconut if it’s hot.

One word Curious

Nyan Amer AKA Nick Fury

Nyan Amer

Working behind the scenes, Nyan helps optimise and activate Safety Rocks’ rights within their motorsport partnerships - quietly unleashing the potential for real change in the sport, just as Nick Fury would.

More about Nyan
What you might not know
Every questionable fashion choice from his teens and twenties has now come back into style. His 14-year-old confirmed it. The retro wardrobe he refused to give up is suddenly on trend.
In his spare time
Tinkering. Fettling. There are more projects than working vehicles in his world, and that’s exactly how he likes it - it’s the journey, not the destination.
Favourite meal
Married to Mauritian islander, Seafood is superfood in their house. He recommends an Ocean Basket platter with Savannah Dry cider.

One word Listener

Carl McKellar AKA Groot

Carl McKellar

Carl is the storyteller - case studies, news releases, media relations, and finding the right opportunities for Carla and the team to get the Safety Rocks’ message in front of the people who need to hear it. Groot says more with less than almost anyone else in the room, and Carl's writing has that same quality.

More about Carl

One word Maverick

Cate Caruth AKA Pepper Potts

Cate Caruth

Cate leads a team of writers who produce Safety Rocks’ content, from leaflets to articles, sharing insights about health and safety in a way that actually connects. Like Pepper Potts, she’s always there, in the background, making things happen.

More about Cate

She’s been singing since she was nine, starting as a cathedral chorister. Last year, she finally passed her Grade 8 and is now working towards a diploma.
Outside of work
When she’s not singing, she’s writing. Currently on novel number five. Writing is her joy, as well as her job.

Depends on the day. Sometimes pizza, sometimes a fruit salad. She’s an explorer at the table as much as anywhere else.

One word Crazy-cat-lady She hyphenated three into one. We’re allowing it.

Becky Allam AKA Pepper Potts

Becky Allam

Becky is part of the small but brilliant team at DBWD keeping the Safety Rocks website in shape. Her job is to make sure all the plates keep spinning - keeping clients happy whilst remaining calm under pressure. If Cate’s the Pepper Potts for words, Becky is the web edition!
