Safety Rocks has appointed Sam Walker as its new Learning & Development Manager, bringing a rare blend of motorsport heritage, modern training expertise and a deep commitment to the people who keep the sport moving.

He joins the innovative health and safety consultancy after four years at Motorsport UK, where he progressed from Training Officer to managing the Volunteer Development Team, overseeing the development, recruitment and retention of all Officials and Marshals who operate within UK motorsport events. Sam has already worked closely with Safety Rocks through its training partnership with the governing body.

Motorsport genuinely runs in Sam’s blood. His great‑great uncle Peter Walker competed in the first modern era Formula 1 grand prix – the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1950, in an ERA – and also won the 1951 Le Mans 24 Hours in a factory Jaguar C‑type. Several other members of his family are still regular competitors at motorsport events today, notably within hill climbing and sprinting.

Sam continues that lineage today as a Clerk of the Course at multiple UK venues including British and Midland Hill Climb Championship events, Vintage Sports Car Club events and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

“The risk‑management message Carla and the team are driving isn’t heard enough,” Sam said. “If the sport wants to evolve and stay healthy, this cultural shift is essential.”

Safety Rocks founder Carla Crocombe added: “Working with Sam at Motorsport UK was always a highlight. When he became available, I didn’t want to lose him – he’s talented, thoughtful and completely committed to the future of the sport.”

At 27, Sam also brings a broad background, from a Master’s degree in Marine Biology to being an accomplished rock ’n’ roll pianist!
